Mustang is one of the trans- Himalayan district of Nepal noted for its wilderness, ethnic, cultural uniqueness and very sparse distribution of population and settlements, Buddhism practicing .This region is known as the last forbidden kingdom and world of the old Buddhist kingdom. It was the old salt trade route caravan of the ancient period. Not only the Tibetan culture but colorful arid landscape and cliffs are related with Tibet.
Before its annexation to Nepal Upper Mustang was part of a kingdom founded in the fifteenth century and deriving its culture and religious roots from Tibet. The society of upper Mustang is an amalgamation of Tibetan culture and Nepali political institutions. You can see still practice of the polyandry marriage system. One of the most interesting and picturesque places in Nepal. In this region you can visit oldest Buddhist monasteries (Lo-ghakyar Gomba) ,ancient isolated villages.
Until the 1990 Upper Mustang was consider a strategic border area. Security concerns led to the closure of Upper Mustang to outside visitors. In 1990s after restoration of multi party democracy the government of Nepal decided to open this region controlled high yielding trekking tourism.
Colorful arid landscapes and cliffs, world's old monastery, isolated villages, treeless barren landscapes, Tibetan culture, rivers horse ridding activities ,Buddhist practicing, Bee hives style houses, wild animal and birds, long stone mane, sputa and chorten , so many caves etc are major attraction of tourist.
You need special permit to enter the region and it should be pay minimum ten days. The trek entry point is Kagbeni and finish in Kagbeni or Muktinath. There are two routes /options.

Program of trek
Day 1- Kathmandu - Pokhara (By tourist bus 7hrs in highway or by flight)
Day 2 - Pokhara - Jomsom -Kagbeni (3850m.) From Pokhara to Jomsom 25 minute by flight in the morning and 2:30 hrs on foot up to Kagbeni along the bank of Kali Gandaki river, panoramic view of Annapurna, Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri(8167m.) and  Tilicho peak.

Day 3 - Kagbeni - Tsaile (3050m.)5 hours walking along the Kali Gandaki river. Kagbeni is the entry gate of the upper Mustang. Beautiful landscape and village. Lunch in  Chuksang village which is beautiful with apple garden, cross the river Kali Gandaki  before Tsaile.

Day 4 - Tsaile - Syangmochen or Gheeling (3475m) around 6 hrs walking, at the beginning  1hrs ascend then flat and ascend with view of colorful cliff's.

Day 5 - Gheeling - Ghami (3520m.) Around 4 hrs, at the beginning ascend up to 3900m and descend up to Ghami. You can see colorful cliffs. After lunch you can visit the village, agriculture terrace, Gompa etc.

Day 6 - Ghami - Tsarang ( 3560) 4 hrs ascend and descend, on the way You can see so many colorful arid cliffs, long mane wall, caves, After Lunch at Tsarang you can  visit monastery and village.

Day 7 - Tsarang - Lo-mangthang (3810m.) 4-5 hrs gradually ascend and flat, Very very nice view. After lunch Visit the old monastery and Royal palace.)

Day 8 - Lo-mangthang (3810m.) In the morning go to Chosar village with horse, visit the monastery,village, and cave.after lunch come back in Lo- mangthang. It is depend  on tourist interest to visit the place. Thereare so many places or things to see in Lo- mangthang. There is four main monastries .)

Day 9 - Lomangthang - Dhakmar or Ghami via Lho-Ghekar Gompa(3800m.)Ascend 2hrs than flat and descend . Climb above 4000m.On the way,you can visit oldest monastery  with the view of mountain .

Day 10 - Ghami - Syangmochen/ Gheeling (3806m.)At the beginning 1:30 hrs ascends, after  that flat and descends.
Day 11 - Gheeling -Chuksang . (3050m.)After lunch Visit the very old-traditional village Tetang  20 minute far from Chuksang.

Day 12 - Chuksang -Kagbeni ( 2850m.)Religious place for Hindu and Buddhist, Your special  permit date finish here.

Day13 - Kagbeni - Muktinath (38oom.) 4hrs climb, very important place to Hindu and Buddhist.

Day14 - Muktinath - Jomsom (2600m.) 4hrs Descend and Flat along Kali Gandaki river side.

Day15 - Jomsom - Pokhara then Kathmandu by bus.
