Kanchenjunga is a huge massif located in the far northeast part of Nepal on the borders of china and india. Kanchenjunga, imposing massif, third high summit of the planet (8586m). A wild trek in a very little known and less frequented region, but certainly among the most beautiful and varied summits of the Himalaya. The name Kanchenjunga means five treasures of the great snow which is in reference to the five summits that make up Kanchenjunga. It offers also the oppurtunity to meet up with ethnic groups (Sherpa, Limbu, Rai, Tamang and Tibetan). This trek requires a good physical condition and good walking experience.

Trekking program

Day 01: Kathmandou - Birâtnagar (morning flight) night at the hotel

Day 02: Biratnagar - Suketar (morning flight, 1850m) : 2-3 hours walk to Lali kharka (2250m)

Day 03: Lali kharka - Sinchebung (2170m) : 5 h. Cross Thambewa, typical Limbu village

Day 04: Sinchebung - Mamankhe (1810m) : 6 h. First view of Kanchanjunga from Phun phun.

Day 05: Mamankhe - Yamphudin (1720m) : 4 h. Easy walk, view of Kanchanjunga, Kyabru and  Jannu Himal. Typical cohabitation villages (Sherpa, Gurung, Rai, Limbu..). 

Day 06: Yamphudin - Omje khola (2350m) : 4 h. Humid path in a splendid forest. Night under the tent, near the river.

Day 07: Omje khola - Torotan (3000m) : 6 h. Walk a bit difficult, long climb in the forest. Cross a  rhododendron forest at Lamite pass (Lasya), under Bhanjyang (3400m). View  n Kanchanjunga glacier and Sikkim border.

Day 08: Torotan - Tseram (3900m) : 4 h. View of Kothang, Rathang, Bokton and Kyabru. The altitude will begin to show. It is imperative to climb slowly.

Day 09: Tseram - Oktang (4700m) : 5 h. Progressive climb to Oktang. View of Rathankg,  Kanchanjunga and summits without names.

Day 10: Oktang - Mirgin la (4620m) Sinion la (4600m) Seleley (4180) : 7 h. Difficult day but  Rewarded by very beatiful views of Jannu, Kyabrus and Yalung glacier.

Day 11: Seleley - Ghunsa (3450m) : 6 h. Little climb to access Jannu belvedere (exceptionnel  Panorama of Jannu, Bokton, …) then view of Ghunsa valley.

Day 12: Ghunsa - Kambachen (4060m) : 4 h. Good view of Jannu north face. Excursion near The glacier. Moraine of Jannu.

Day 13: Kambachen - Lhonak (4760m) : 4 h. Progressive climb by easy path. Nice view of  Several summits.

Day 14: Pang pema (Kanchanjunga base camp 5120m) : 6 h. Early rise to be back at time (Because weather changes quickly in Himalaya!). Easy path. Splendid panorama of  The whole Kanchanjunga chain (Nepal peak, Kirant chuli, Yalung, …). Back to Lhonak  Camp by the same way.

Day 15: Lhonak - Ghunsa (3450m) : about 7 h. Back to Ghunsa by the same path. Early visit to Ghunsa monastery.

Day 16: Ghunsa - Amjilassa (2450m) : 6 h. The path follows Ghunsa khola bank

Day 17: Amjilassa - Chirwa (1400m) : 6-7 h. Chirwa is a small ten houses village.

Day 18: Chirwa - Jogindanda (1600m) : 6 h. Cross small villages in the middle of terrace Cultivation.

Day 19: Jogindanda - Suketar (1850m) : 4 h. Last day. Little climb to Siddhi danda (2250m).  Visit of the monastery

Day 20: morning flight to Kathmandu via Biratnagar.
